Helping writers find their voice and enhance their work is my passion. I worked as an editor at magazines (and on their websites) for more than twenty years, most recently with a 12-year stint at Allure. I also held editing jobs at Seventeen, Cosmopolitan, and Self. 

What I do is different from copyediting: Rather than focusing on grammar, my specialty is working with a writer to make her words the best they can be. I pore over the work line by line. Is the writing lively? Does it veer into clichés? Does the voice shine through? Are there flaws in logic or credibility? Is there anything that should be cut or shortened? It's extremely difficult to spot these problems in your own writing, so enlisting an experienced outside eye is crucial before showing your work to an editor or the general public.
